Seminario Laura Bonanni - 17 Marzo 2021

Sapienza for "Brain Awareness Week" (March 15-21, 2021)

"Brain Awareness Week" is a worldwide initiative, coordinated by the Dana Foundation (https://www.brainawareness.org/), to interest the public in and support brain research. Each March, many research organizations hold events to popularize neuroscience and make people aware of brain science's impact on our daily lives.

This year, "Brain Awareness Week" takes place March 15-21. One of the initiatives organized by the neuroscientists of Sapienza University of Rome deals with artists' brains' compelling case (webinar on March 17, 2021, from 12:00 - noon).

Artists can capture unique but universal photograms of human lives and emotions in different media. It is often said that an artist's brain also may see the world differently. Scientists unveiled that the structure and functional connectivity of artists' brains differ from those of non-artists. Do artists' brains explore new dimensions of human experience as pioneers discovering new lands and continents for all other people? The lecture will show the diversity of some artists' brain and its possible reflection on their masterpieces. That diversity may expand both the conception of normality into society and the borders of our inner world.

Chairperson introducing the lecture topic: Claudio Babiloni, Associate Professor of Physiology at Sapienza University of Rome, Italy. He investigates brain rhythms underlying vigilance and consciousness, with applications to understanding diseases that deteriorate those brain functions, as in Alzheimer's disease.

Speaker: Laura Bonanni, Associate Professor of Neurology at the University of Chieti-Pescara “G. d'Annunzio”, Italy. She investigates genetic, anatomical, neurobiological, neurophysiological and clinical alterations in patients suffering from neurodegenerative diseases, with a particular interest in those caused by Lewy bodies.
